It happened. Saturday, May 30th will go down in our history.

Slum Soccer of Nagpur, India participated by playing 20 min 15 sec of soccer to recognize 2015 The Year of Women in Sport.

They wove in Play it Forward as a feature event into their Fourth Edition of the Women’s National Championship. As they posted on their facebook page “The tournament will see teams from 12 different states of the country fighting for numero uno spot in the 3-day tournament. The Tournament will not just only include matches, but will touch live topics such as gender equality, women empowerment, health & hygiene, sports for development through sessions and various uniquely designed games of Slum Soccer also it will focus on the overall development of the player as a whole. Come and witness the amazing power of football in transforming lives of so many people when these teams compete against each other to win and cement a spot for themselves in the Indian Team that will participate at the Homeless World Cup in Netherlands this Year.”

As part of raising awareness, they took a pledge in Hindi and English to become better people and to stop violence.

We are so very fortunate to have been associated with such a tremendous and powerful group of people. I enjoy seeing change and this group is inspiring change in India. Many lessons for us to take back here to Canada.

Here is pledge video – start at 2:15 min and watch to the end to see the final portion of the pledge!
